In July of 2013 Illinois passed Public Act 98-63 and became the last state to allow law abiding citizens the option of carrying a concealed handgun for personal protection.  The law, in it's entirety can be viewed here.

Who should take the Illinois Concealed Carry Course?
  • Anyone seriously considering even occasionally carrying a firearm for personal protection outside your home

Renewals:

Renewing your Illinois Carry Permit requires a 3-Hour "Refresher" course, covering the basics of safety and any changes to the Illinois Carry Law. With the Covid situation. the Illinois State Police (ISP) are running well behind the normal time to process a renewal. At one point earlier this year it was over 175 days to get your permit renewed.  The timing is improving but they have agreed, that if you have applied for a renewal, your current permit will still be considered valid while you wait for the ISP to process your renewal application.
